DX4WIN Version 8 Preview
Here is a preview of some of the new features of DX4WIN Version 8.
This is not meant to be
exhaustive, nor to encourage discussions as to what features to change or add.
Paul is almost done with the coding, and "feature creep" will delay the release.

This image shows the QSO Window (fully expanded). Note the new fields:
- Name
- QTH
- IOTA Island
- Freq
- Sat Name
- eQSL fields
- CQ Field award
Paul has been nice enough to add a couple of Multiple QSO Operations to the
program. One to transfer frequency from the "Notes for this QSO" field to the
new "Freq" field. And a second to transfer "Notes for this Call" in the
form of "<Name>" or "<Name> in <Location>" to the new
"Name" and "QTH" fields, respectively.

This is another view of the QSO window, showing the the new eQSL menu.
The LoTW menu is similar.
The QSLs menu is now only used for paper QSLs (including label management).

This image shows DX4WIN using the "Office 2003" skin.
This is the new Award manager, which replaces the various awards tabs in the
Preferences. Most people won't have to modify this, except to enable the band
and/or mode awards you are tracking. Using the Award Manager, you can:
- Enable or disable mixed, band and/or mode awards
- Select which type of confirmations are acceptable
- Specify start dates for award classes (by band, mode, confirmation type, etc.)
You can see in the following example that the DXCC CW award starts on 01/01/1975
(look under Mode group).

This is another view of the Award Manager, showing that the start date for the
160 meter WAZ award is 01/01/1975.

This is the new report generator, with DX4WIN configured to use the iTunes skin. Using the
report generator, you can get summaries, worked and needed listings for any
award (even custom awards), for any band/mode combination you want. The kinds of
summary information available are configured in the Award Manager. For
example, if you only track DXCC mode awards, then you can disable DXCC Band
awards in the Award manager, and DXCC listings and summaries will only show mode
information.

This image shows an IOTA needed listing. In this case, the IOTA Award was
configured for Mixed and Mode awards. Double-clicking on a letter in one of the
mode columns creates a logbook filter showing all matching QSOs.

This is the new Band Map. The colors of the calls match those in the DX Spots
window. The band map tracks the radio dial in real-time (see the red arrow). You
can double-click on a call in the bandmap to grab the spot (tune the radio, enter into log)
just like you can with the DX Spots window.
The letters next to
some calls, i.e. HZ1ZN [E], are derived from a "Member" database that you can
create yourself, or download from the DX4WIN web site. Some of the things
you can include in the database are [L]oTW users, [E]QSL users, [D]IG members,
etc. The Member information is also available in the DX Spots window. Each DX
spot can display up to [four] "codes". Now you
can tell when a DX spot arrives, if that station uses LoTW, eQSL, is a member
of FOC, a local club member, etc. (up to four different member groups can be
specified).

The QSOs not Found Viewer is a new feature to make it easier to match
imported QSOs that are not found, with QSOs in your log. See the example below.
The top portion of the viewer shows QSOs in the imported file that could not be
matched to your DX4WIN logbook. An [X] next to the call means it was not found
in the DX4WIN logbook. The other entries are QSOs that were already marked as
confirmed.
By double-clicking on KQ7W, which was not found in the log,
DX4WIN brings up a list of Potential matches from your logbook in
the bottom portion of the viewer. You can see that KQ7W was logged at 2142 UTC, but the
imported QSO is listed as 2242 UTC (one hour off). Double-click on the QSO
information in the bottom portion, and DX4WIN will go to that QSO in your log. If
desired, you can change the QSO details so that the imported QSO will match.
